Rescue a Shattered Sanctuary from Diablo

Diablo has been restored, adventurer. Certain doom is upon us!

In our last content update you prepared for the Lord of Terror’s return with a new limited-time event, balance changes for some Classes, and updates to many features.

This major update introduces the Shattered Sanctuary main quest, which will see you gather allies and sail to the icy north to contest a horde of demons pouring into our world at the behest of Diablo, Lord of Terror. You'll carry Justice itself with you in the form of El'druin, sword of the Archangel Tyrael. But to have even a chance of defeating Diablo, you'll need to disrupt his armies, push back his lieutenants, and dismantle a truly diabolical weapon that lies at the heart of his plans, deep in the Crater of Unmaking.

As with previous content updates, there will be server maintenance starting on December 12, from 4 p.m.–6 p.m. PST for Oceania, China, East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe servers, and on December 13, from 12 a.m.–2 a.m. PS for servers in the Americas. A Fated Duel: Shattered Sanctuary Main Quest

Shattered Sanctuary is the next chapter in the main quest for Diablo Immortal, available to those who have completed the Crucible of Justice quest. With El'druin, the Sword of Justice, in hand, gather your allies and sail to a ravaged land in the far north. Here, at World's Crown, you will face Diablo in a high-stakes duel for the fate of Sanctuary.

But before you can clash against the Lord of Terror, you must first fight through a vicious legion comprised of Terror Demons and Cultists, Shardborne, and The Maddened. The latter were seafarers and seasonal visitors to World’s Crown and were among the first to gaze upon Diablo’s visage and spiral into insanity. Now, they’re indistinguishable from monsters.

If you are unable to hold Terror at bay, all of Sanctuary will be unmade.

Hell on Sanctuary: World’s Crown

World's Crown is Diablo Immortal's newest zone (and largest to date), a vast snowy landmass in the far north besieged by the Legions of Terror as Diablo attempts to fuse Sanctuary with the Burning Hells. It includes new bounties, seven subzones and a safe zone, and unique "wanted" monsters.

Relive Your Climactic Clash Against the Lord of Terror with Friends

Once the dust has settled and the Shattered Sanctuary quest completed, you can relive your moment of glory against Diablo as a replayable challenge. Gather up to 4 brave souls and dare to confront a Diablo who wields all the force of the Burning Hells alongside the reality-warping power of the Worldstone Shard. Should you survive, El’druin-inspired Cosmetics, Set items, and more will be your rewards.

Crank Up the Complexity in Challenge Dungeons

Dungeons just became more rewarding…and dangerous. Shattered Sanctuary introduces boosted versions called Challenge Dungeons, which are higher-difficulty versions of all Diablo Immortal's existing dungeons. When you begin a Challenge Dungeon, you'll be assigned 1-2 random dungeon modifiers, such as pools of magma, increased monster speed, or bonus globe drops. Your first Challenge Dungeon completed each week will provide a chest with a guaranteed Set Item, and all challenge runs will have a higher chance of dropping potent rewards.

Monsters have 500% more Life and deal 200% more damage in Challenge Dungeons, so approach with caution. Here are the possible forces of Hell that can be unleashed during your Challenge Dungeon run:

  • Big Problem: Enemies are larger throughout the dungeon. The player's size is decreased. Bosses will continuously grow over time until they enrage.
  • Laser: Enemies fire beams of energy at targets.
  • Bad Blood: Enemies may leave behind a pool of blood after death that will slow and damage players.
  • Bolstered: Some non-Boss monsters have an aura that increased movement and attack speed of nearby monsters, and gives them a shield.
  • Rain of Fire: Fireballs occasionally fall from the sky, leaving burning areas that will damage the player.
  • Sacrificial Power: Skills have greatly reduced cooldowns but cost Health.
  • Lava Eruption: Lava periodically erupts beneath the player.
  • Speed Run: Completing the dungeon within the time limit will grant bonus rewards.
  • Swarming: The dungeon has more normal monsters throughout.
  • S-Class: The dungeon has more elite monsters throughout.
  • Gauntlet: The dungeon has no normal monsters, and Bosses are stronger.
  • Heightened Senses: Monsters sense players more easily and have greatly increased movement speed.
  • Conjurer: Some monsters and Bosses summon doppelgangers.
  • Bountiful: Combat Globes drop more frequently.
  • Greed's Spoils: Skip directly to the final Dungeon Boss. The Boss’s difficulty is increased.

Meet Your Next Nightmare: Dreadbirth Helliquary Bosses

Some of the Lord of Terror’s strongest allies have reared their abhorrent heads in Sanctuary. Rayek needs your help more than ever to return these abominations to the Hells. Gather your allies and unlock 3 new Inferno difficulties and rewards for slaying the Dreadbirth Helliquary Bosses. Defeating Morsagurei the Fisher’s Ruin from the last group of Helliquary Bosses unlocks Inferno IV, and the first Dreadbirth Helliquary Boss. Here’s a look at who these harbingers of Hell are:

Vogmarik the Tormentor

Human skulls and angelic armor – these are a few of Vogmarik’s favorite things. The demon stalks and tortures any human and angel unfortunate enough to enter his lair. Broken bones and cracked chest plates are kept for his coveted collection, while superfluous flesh is tossed to the maggots. But while Vogmarik enjoys collecting trophies from his victim’s bodies, nothing compares to the thrill of the hunt.

Defeating Vogmarik unlocks Inferno V and the ability to oppose Mulgaist the Molten.

Mulgaist the Molten

The demon Mulgaist resides deep within an enormous volcano, slithering underneath a lake of lava. As of yet, no one has gotten close enough to the volcano to witness Mulgaist in its entirety, but their presence is made painfully aware through the plumes of magma that erupt from the volcano’s maw. Villages surrounding the volcano hold charred bodies frozen in time, their hands held high in disbelief as Mulgaist set fire to the rain.

Defeating Mulgaist unlocks Inferno VI and the ability to oppose Deosbrae, Sovereign Shade.

Deosbrae, Sovereign Shade

Deosbrae was young when the first shadow fell on Sanctuary. She lurks within the bowels of the earth, birthing abominations of night to infest the lands. Her children roam all of Sanctuary in search of prey, carrying Deosbrae’s message far and wide with every kill: Darkness is as inevitable as death.

Topple Hell’s Creations in a New Helliquary Gauntlet

The Dreadbirth Helliquary bosses have been added to the Helliquary Gauntlet’s legendary line up, of which the next season begins on December 13. You can earn Legendary items, Set items, and the new Molten Ruptured Soul Armor, Weapon and Portal cosmetics if you have the endurance to topple these foes.

Additionally, enemies slain by the reaper increase your damage done by 2% for 30 seconds, stacking up to 6 times. Cannot occur more often than once every 6 seconds.

Feature Updates

New Progression System: Seeker’s Path

Seeker’s Path is a new progression system that will award you with Seeker Rating whenever you upgrade your 8 Primary Equipment slots, the Helliquary, or Ancestral Tableau. As you gain rating, you’ll passively earn Combat Rating, and once you reach certain milestones, you’ll earn materials useful for further upgrading the Helliquary and your Primary Equipment slots. Upgrading your Primary Equipment slots, Helliquary, or Ancestral Tableau will no longer provide Combat Rating.

Both the Helliquary and Ancestral Tableau menus can now be found within the new Seeker’s Path menu. There are some additional changes that have been made to the Ancestral Tableau because of Seeker’s Path:

  • The Ancestral Tableau is no longer part of the Warband activity, and it unlocks upon reaching Level 20. You do not need to be in a warband to access it.
  • Activity Points, formally called Warband Activity Points, can now be earned by completing the Defense of Cyrangar and Purge the Depths activities, Bounties, Elder Rifts, and Dungeons with friends, Clans, or Warbands. Activity Points can still be earned from completing these activities solo, but at a reduced rate.
  • Every 300 Activity Points earned will automatically be converted to Attributes and Seeker Rating.
  • The Weekly Cap for Activity Points has been removed. The rate at which your Activity Points will be converted is based on your character’s Seeker Rating in relation to your Server’s Seeker Rating.

Developer’s Note: This change aims to help adventurers enhance their power more effectively. For those who are behind in progression, catching up on upgrading their equipment, Helliquary, and Ancestral Tableau is extremely challenging, especially since participating in warband activities is required to advance your Ancestral Tableau. We have consolidated these three systems into Seeker's Path and removed the restriction tying Ancestral Tableau to warbands.

Familiars

Familiars now have added utility! At Nisza, the Familiar vendor in Westmarch, you can send up to 4 Bonded Familiars to complete Accursed Tower Purification, Shadow Contracts, and Iben Fahd’s Sanctum through the new Familiar Expeditions feature. The more Familiars you send, the quicker they’ll complete the task. While your Familiars are hard at work repelling Hell’s forces, you can play as you normally would—they'll even continue their task if you exit Diablo Immortal. You'll receive rewards from completing these tasks as though you did yourself.

Now, only Conversion will be used to upgrade your Familiars, the Melding option has been removed.

  • Conversions guarantee 1 Normal Familiar of equal or better quality.
  • The new Normal Familiar created from the Conversion is bound to the player and cannot be sold.
  • Any newly summoned or purchased Normal Familiars are not tradeable.
  • Conversions have a small chance to create an additional Aberrant Familiar of equal or better quality. The Evolution path and sale options for Aberrant Familiars remain unchanged.

A new Skill Tier has been added for Normal Familiars: Enhanced Rare.

  • Enhanced Rare Tier skills can be obtained from a Conversion.
  • Normal Familiars can get Enhanced Rare Skills, and Legendary Traits.
  • Normal Familiars can unlock Level 3 Outlook now.

Magic Affix Reroll

If you have already upgraded all 8 of your Primary Equipment to Rank 30, you can now use the new Enchant feature at a Blacksmith to reroll one Magic Affix on an item to replace it. Helliquary Boss, Class-specific, and Skill-specific Magic Affixes cannot be rerolled.

Gem Resonance

The Gem Resonance system now unlocks at Rank 4, giving you flexibility in Socketing the Gems you want, but old pre-determined Resonance Gems are still needed to get the Socketed Bonuses.

Socketing Resonance Gems will now temporarily contribute Gem Power to the primary Gem when it is ranked up in Progressive Upgrade. If the same ranked up Primary Gem is unsocketed later, it will become dormant to prevent exploitation.

Legendary Gems

Gem Power Extraction and Transfer can now be used on One and Two-Star Legendary Gems. Extending this feature to all Legendary Gems will allow you to freely swap around new Gems and test different builds and loadouts.

Normal Gems

The number of Normal Gems acquired through the Gem Find party bonus can now be tracked while in a group of 4 players.

Dungeons

Deciding to skip the Dungeon’s introduction cutscene will now automatically skip the cutscene for that Dungeon for the rest of the week. The Temple of Namari, Destruction’s End, and The Mad King’s Breach Dungeons playthrough experience has improved.

Armory

A new Armory has been added to Battleground and Tower War. When used, only the effects of Essence Transfer are retained for these PvP activities. Gems and items cannot be replaced. Armories have also received two updates:

  • You can now save an activated Paragon Specialization without saving points.
  • A new display mode that allows you to clearly view individual equipment and their names has been added.

Battleground

We’ve made a handful of changes to honor labels (most damage, assists, etc).

  • Extra points will be awarded to members of the losing side of a match who receive Honor Labels.
  • Honor Labels will be more evenly distributed going forward. Each team will receive their own Honor Labels.
  • The points gained from Honor Labels will be displayed clearly in the post-match UI.

Helliquary

A new damage meter displaying the top 4 damage dealers has been added. More information about each player’s performance can be viewed once the Helliquary battle concludes.

The downtime and transitions for the following Helliquary Bosses has been reduced by removing Life locks and adjusting triggers for spawns throughout the fight:

  • Iscea, Twofold Rebirth
  • Elsauli the Shardheart
  • Peisthal the Underearth Empress
  • Aeyntragga, Eater of Storms
  • Uthmaash-Ksarr the Breath Collector
  • Xekorendaag, Ice Leviathan
  • Morsagurei the Fisher's Ruin

Additionally, a Spectator mode has been added to the Helliquary for downed allies to cheer on their comrades while they continue the fight.

Prodigy’s Path

Two Prodigy’s Path will now be available each quarter of the year. The first two under the new system will run from December 13–January 27 and January 27–March 20. Free rewards will remain the same but will be split across both Prodigy’s Path. Premium rewards will also remain the same, but you can now earn twice the amount if you purchase both Prodigy’s Path.

Hero’s Journey Reset

Dust off your trusty weapon, Hero’s Journey Chapters 1–6 will reset on December 13 and the first 4 chapters of the new Hero’s Journey will be available. Begin completing the chapters so you can earn the new Roving Victory portrait frame. Once chapters 5 and 6 of the new Hero’s Journey become available, we’ll let you know.

Challenge Rift Season 10

The next Challenge Rift season will run from December 13–February 17. It adds Levels 351-400, capping out at Combating Rating 47,522 and lowers the difficulty for Levels 331-350.

New Horadric Bestiary Entries

New collectable entries have been added to the Horadric Bestiary to illustrate the histories of the Dreadbirth and Stormspawn Helliquary bosses. Gather Monsterous Essence to unlock them!

Adventurer’s Chronicle

New entries to the Adventurer's Chronicle have been added—look for them throughout Sanctuary, with a particular concentration in the new zone, World's Crown.

Wing Awaken

The Wing Awaken system now requires 6,000 Resonance to unlock, down from 8,000. The system has been reworked to the following:

  • 6,000 Resonance: Unlock the Wing Awaken system and 4 Slots for Gem Resonance.
  • 7,000 Resonance: Unlock 8 slots.
  • 8,000 Resonance: Unlock 12 slots.
  • 8,500 Resonance: Unlock 16 slots.
  • 10,000 Resonance: Unlock Transcendent Wings.
  • 12,000 Resonance: Unlock Transcendent Wings (Sacred).

Upon reaching the maximum Resonance, you’ll gain the Swift Heaven bonus, which increases your Movement Speed in Safe Zones.
